Martel Express seeks to have a positive impact on its community, the company is proud to announce its partnership with Transit Secours. It is a Canadian non-profit organization whose mission is deeply supported. Transit Secours offers free moving services to women and all victims of domestic violence.
Leaving an abusive relationship happens at a time of haste and panic. This forces many women to leave their belongings behind. Recovering these belongings and confronting your attacker is a dangerous process that should not be endured. Transit Secours was therefore formed to provide women with a safe way to regain possession of their property. The organization has had an office in Montreal since September 2020 and has carried out 100 moves thanks to their partners and volunteers!
Michèle, director of operations at Transit Secours, started with the organization as an intern in Ottawa. She had the opportunity to transfer to the Montreal office and got to where she is now! She had experience in community work and supporting women was a very important cause to her. This role therefore became perfect for her.
She describes the most rewarding part of her job as being able to support these women and assist them in their transition. Michèle also appreciates being in a position where she can contribute to the community effort to help victims of domestic violence.
She continues to be affected by the scale of this problem. Abuse is not limited by economic status or social class, it affects not just one person, but entire families and communities. Michèle thus underlines the collective responsibility we have to support this cause and to offer all the resources at our disposal to help.
So how can you help ?
The simplest way is to publicize what Transit Secours does. If you know someone with access to resources that could help the organization’s mission, be sure to tell them! Many women in the Montreal area need to move appliances and heavier items. With the assistance of moving companies, the organization is able to expand its services and help more women in need. They also accept monetary donations and are constantly looking for volunteers for operations, marketing, web development, fundraising and more!
To date, Martel Express has carried out three moves for Transit Secours. We are happy to be able to continue to lend our resources and help women and anyone who has suffered abuse recover their belongings safely.
